1. Find Your Phone
A lot of people forget where they put their smartphone regularly. I’m one of those people who places the smartphone on the bathroom counter and forgets about it after washing my face, this is partially due to poor eyesight and me taking off my specs. However, now there is an easy way to find your smartphone, all you need to do is say, “Alexa, trigger find my phone” and the personal assistant will place a call on your smartphone. All you need to do is follow the sound and you’ll find the phone. Tough luck if your smartphone is on silent mode, though, well not really, we have a solution to that as well.
2. Email Shopping List
This one of the most useful things for your spouse or mom to use. All the need to do is say, “what’s on my shopping list?” And Alexa will send you an email containing the entire list. The best thing? You can always send it to yourself but also up to 4 other people. Now you can simply yell this magic phrase while stepping out and you’ll instantly have a shopping list to go. If you’re the house runner, you can not only make lists simply by talking to Alexa (uses another applet) but also send it flying over to the one who is meant to shop.
3. Unsilence Your Phone
Remember how I told you to find your smartphone in the first applet? But there was no way to locate it by sound when your smartphone is silenced? This makes it quite easy for you to locate your smartphone. Just a little note, I know that unsilence is not an actual word but you have to roll with it because the applet maker used it.
4. Sync To-Dos to Google Calendar
This is a nifty little applet that will automatically sync to dos you to take to Alexa to your Google calendar. This is actually quite helpful because not only you can easily make a to-do list on Alexa but also have a copy of it while roaming around outside or more specifically in the grocery store. This is another great feature to utilize when you are constantly forgetting about eggs and your mom wants to bake a cake. If your smartphone is connected to the internet, theoretically anyone can make a to-do list on Alexa, and it will be automatically added to your Google Calendar. So now, instead of your wife sending you 1 billion text messages, she can simply talk to Alexa and get the job done.
5. Phone Rings With Alexa Alarm
You can set alarms on Alexa and while they are not as great as some of the dedicated alarm apps for Android, they can certainly work. But, what if Alexa is in the common room and you are sleeping in your bed? Will you be able to get up on time?
6. Keep Spreadsheet of Songs
You come home, tell Alexa to play some tunes and certainly after one or 2 songs you find the one that really clicks. You’ll inquire what song it is from Alexa and tomorrow you forget it. By using this articulate IFTTT applet that works with Alexa, you’ll not only be able to keep a Google spreadsheet of every song you listened but also the artist’s name, the album, and that playtime. This will all be done automatically without you even doing anything. This is the futuristic present I want to live in.
7. Alexa To-Dos to Evernote
This works exactly the same as the 4th entry on this list but instead of uploading your to do’s to Google calendar, this applet will do it on Evernote. There is not much difference between the two options and if you prefer Evernote over Google calendar, this is the applet you should get.
